Hello

Friends of Tumaini is a UK registered charity (number 1126352) which supports a children’s home in Nairobi, Kenya.  The home, “Nyumba Ya Tumaini” (house of hope) provides a safe home for boys previously living on the streets in Nairobi.  They have a warm, dry home; nourishing food; health-care; and all attend school.  Eighteen boys aged between 12 and 18 currently live at Nyumba Ya Tumaini.

The difference it makes is just incredible.  Living on the streets, five-year-old boys carry small water bottles with a tiny bit of glue in the bottom; sniffing it is the best way to overcome the hunger.  Now, with the stability and support offered by the home, three of our boys are Head Boy, Deputy Head Boy and Games Captain at their school, and a fourth is awaiting exam results which we hope will enable him to attend university.  You can read more stories like these here or see it here:

A committee in Kenya oversees the day-to-day work of the home; Friends of Tumaini in the UK exists to support them financially and in other ways where we can.  We raise around £17,000 per year to support the home – and all the money we raise goes straight to Kenya, as the trustees cover all administrative costs in the UK.

We send out occasional (no more than 4 a year) email updates about the home – please sign up if you’d like to receive these.
